Thailand – Koh Phangan/Koh Samui

5th June 2018

After an absence of 25 years we went back to Koh Samui. We knew it would have changed, the airport is still charming but bigger than the one hut arrivals and departure terminal remembered. Tourism here has grown ernomously over the years but it still retained its Thai friendly charm which it could never lose. We discovered Koh Phangnan, an island 40 mins from Koh Samui by speedboat which reminds us of Koh Samui 25 years ago. There are only a few hotels scattered along its coastline in secluded beaches our favourite being the Anantara Rasananda. We loved being close to the local village of Thong Nai Pan Noi where small family restuarants will cook you the freshest and tastiest Thai food you will ever have! The island is famous for its Full Moon Party when up to 45,000 party goers decend on the south of the Island to party the night away and then disappear as quickly the next day as they arrived!
